Right Wing Morons
Right wingers who are calling Obama “elitist” should really do some self reflecting and examine if they’re morons. Let’s do a quick comparison between Bush, McCain, and Obama.
Bush is the son of a former President, the grandson of a Senator, and related to the British royal family through his mother. In fact, his family has produced three Presidents: Franklin Pierce (ancestor to Barbara Bush nee Pierce), George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush. George attended Phillips Academy at Andover (the most prestigious boarding school in the US and probably the world), Yale University, and then Harvard Business School. I can’t think of a more prestigious, “born with silver spoon” upbringing than that.
McCain is the son and grandson of admirals. He attended the US Naval Academy, which is comparable to the Ivy Leagues. He is married to an heiress of a sizable fortune and, as we recently learned, has more houses than he can remember.
Obama is the son of an African father and Caucasian mother who gave birth to him when she was only 18. After being abandoned by his father, he was raised by a single mother with the help of his grandparents in Hawaii. He attended Columbia and then Harvard Law School.
Of the three, it’s pretty clear that Obama was the least privileged. In fact, he was probably worse off than the average American because of his heritage and lack of a father. How is he an elitist? Because he graduated from Columbia and Harvard Law School? Isn’t that the American dream after all? He was born with less than most but through talent and effort worked his way up. Bush was given so much yet achieved so little after becoming President. How is it fair to call Obama an “elitist” but not level the same against Bush and McCain? What kind of President do these people want anyways? Someone who lacks even a college education?
America is a democracy, not an “idiocracy”. We want someone running the country who’s better than the rest of us because otherwise why would we even need a President? These people who don’t want an “elitist” have had their chance with Bush and his cadre of idiots and under qualified members of his administration. Look where we are now. We have two unfinished wars and an economy in shambles.
Does it really hurt some of their egos to think that some of our leaders are actually better, smarter, or more elite than us? If they disagree, perhaps they should run for President. This is a democracy after all.
Let’s be frank for a minute. I don’t argue with idiots nor suffer fools lightly, especially when it comes to computer science. It’s an waste of effort because we’re not even communicating at the right level nor with the same set of believes. Likewise, why should someone with a Ph.D. in neuroscience bother arguing with me on something in that field or really pay attention to what I have to say? If an avid football fan wants to debate the best quarterback or team, I don’t see why he or she should have to take my opinion serious when I don’t even know all the rules of the game (although I know most of it and enjoy it). Everyone does this. You have to prove yourself before someone will listen to you or respect your opinion. Not everyone’s opinion on everything are worth the same. So if Obama tends to listen to someone with a J.D. from Harvard or Yale over Liberty, can we really fault him for doing so? As a really rough measure of credibility in their respective field, how many Supreme Court justices has Liberty produced versus Harvard, Yale, or Stanford in the period when all these schools were in existence? None. Without resorting to some vast conspiracy theory or one that discredits the intellectual honesty of those who disagrees with you, one would have to say that a graduate of Harvard, Yale, or Stanford has a more credible opinion on the law than one of Liberty.
Perhaps I can boil this down to something really simple: if you are having chest pains, would you believe the words of someone with a M.D. from Harvard or someone whose only experience with medicine is from watching E.R. and using Web M.D.?
